Adult website laws, confusion...?

Adult websites aren't generally illegal. Legitimate ones make sure that no illegal content (ie. child ) is on the site. Visiting a site that is known to have illegal content isn't a crime. Viewing or downloading that content is. Doing a web search on the phrase "child " is not illegal either, the law is broken when illegal content is viewed or downloaded. One could run into such material on any number of legitimate websites or services that allow file sharing. It is possible but not probable to run into legal trouble by accidentally viewing it. Law enforcement efforts are generally focused on people who actively and frequently download and distribute such materials, not on people who visit websites that have some illegal content.
