Would it be wiser to get a Vespa scooter?

I'm 15 and recently got my learner's permit, I've only driven a car a few days, and to be honest it scares the s**t out of me. I live in a small suburb in IL and I'm thinking about driving a Vespa. I live about 5 minutes away from school and would probably only drive to places close-by. I have another home in Germany where I already have my LX 150. So do you think it would be a wise idea to just bring the vespa to the states and get my motorcycle permit, and eventually license?. I feel that if I'm on a scooter I'm far more aware of my surroundings, have no 'blind' spots, are a smaller target, and have greater ability to avoid a collision.
